A practice in progress
Paintings shaped by stillness, weather, and memory.
A practice of looking slowly
Maria Ivan is a contemporary painter whose work begins with landscape and moves toward memory. Through layered marks, softened horizons, and an instinctive sense of atmosphere, she explores the moment a familiar place becomes something felt rather than simply seen.\n\nHer paintings value the evidence of their making. Brushwork remains visible; forms arrive, dissolve, and return. Muted winter blues, mineral greys, and flashes of warmth create spaces that feel both intimate and expansive.\n\nThis website is a growing archive of her practice and a place to discover original works as they become available.
Paintings built by arrival and erasure.
Each work develops through accumulation: washes, dry brush, scratched lines, and areas returned to quiet. The surface keeps a record of decisions while leaving room for the unexpected.
